About

GulfDecoded explains how to set up a business in the UAE, and how to move to and live in it, in plain English and based on real experience.

Who’s behind it

I’m Saif Ullah Iqbal. In December 2022 I set up my own company in Dubai. I handled the trade licence and business bank account myself, registered a trademark with the UAE Ministry of Economy through an accredited agent, and manage VAT filing with a registered tax agent. Before the UAE, I built and ran businesses in Pakistan, including fuel retail.

Why this site exists

When I started, the information I needed was scattered, out of date, or written by consultants trying to sell a package. GulfDecoded is the guide I wish I’d had: clear steps, real costs, and honest trade-offs.

How we write

  • Based on firsthand experience wherever possible
  • Checked against official UAE government sources, such as government portals and the Federal Tax Authority, because rules and fees change often
  • Dated, and reviewed when regulations change

GulfDecoded is an independent personal project. It is not affiliated with any company, consultancy or government authority.
